The typical situation is: you "click on something", windows appears to be frozen, and after several seconds (or minutes, if yo are really lucky :-), the famous message appears: svchost.exe is not responding and will be terminated.
This problem is more serious in older versions of Windows, say XP. Modern Windows can recover more easily and mostly you can simply start svchost.exe again and continue in your work.
If the problem persists, try to restart Windows.
Next step is to run a check disk - very often the software freeze just because of the disk error - when the process cannot read the data from the hard disk. Another reason for not responding issue may be frozen internet connection - test it as well.

If you cannot terminate the process svchost.exe by clicking on big "X" in top right corner of main window, open Program manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del works well), locate svchost.exe and terminate it there.
