New Update:
So on the Windows Server 2012, if I manually invoke snmp.exe from WindowsSystem32 to 'Run as Administrator', the problem goes away. I am not able to force the SNMP Service to start as Administrator on Windows Server 2012.

Here is my scenario:

Our SNMP Extension Agent creates a windows socket to connect with one of our
Agents on a specific port number to get some configuration
information which we propagate to the MIB Browser.

reader: reader vs buffered reader

what would be the performance difference on calling read(char[] cbuf) between FileReader and BufferedReader assuming the size of the buffer for BufferedReader to be the same as cbuf.

I know that a simple read() call on the FileReader is slower sice every time a native call is being made to read each character.

A read(char[] cbuf) on the FileReader would read cbuf size of chars with just one native call which is similar to that of the BufferedReader.

So would there be any

dllhost.exe: generating dmp files from an inproc com dll running in dllhost.exe

I am writing an inproc com dll that runs in the dllhost.exe surrogate, but I see an issue debugging it.

in exe's that I've written, I have a top level exception handler that creates a .dmp file i can load in windbg and then crashes, and I'm unsure of how to do this from dllhost. Is there another way to generate stack dumps from dllhost.exe on a crash? i've seen this page (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910904), but it seems to involve the component services program. Is there some registr

smss.exe: Replacing winlogon.exe in windows embedded

I need to create my own UI for windows login. I'm doing this using Windows 7 Embedded and I have complete access to image creation and modification.

From researching I've learnt that winlogon.exe is called by smss.exe I've haven't looked too much into smss.exe; I've started to disassemble it, but I haven't quite found out how it launches winlogon. I think, and I hope that this information is contained somewhere in the registry, otherwise it may cause conflicts with windows updates.
