VB6 Drag and Drop Performance in Windows 8

I have a rather large VB6 application that features dragging and dropping controls between sub forms in an MDI application. The problem is the performance is really bad during the drag operation. You can see the element redrawing (slowly) as you drag it.

I first encountered this issue in Windows 7 and after some research concluded that it was a compatibility issue with the Aero interface. I was able to work around it by switching off the Aero effects. Now I am using Windows 8 the problem is back, however, this is no longer any Aero to disable.I have tried stopping the dwm.exe process but this just restarts itself in windows 8, I assume that this is because its required for the stupid 'Modern-UI' interface.

I am planning to migrate to .NET in the future but its going to be a big job. For now I need a workaround to get this drag problem working in Windows 8.

dwm.exe: F12 not working in Delphi debugger on Windows 7/8

Pressing F12 while the program is running in the debugger should break the execution and open the debugger. This works correctly on Windows XP (tested with D2007 and XE2) but fails on Windows 7 and 8 (also tested with D2007 and XE2; tested on three computers).

Registry is set up properly (Windows 7):

'UserDebuggerHotKey'=dword:00000000

Just curious, say, if I enumerate all processes running in a user's session, is there any way to tell which are Windows system processes (such as explorer.exe, taskhost.exe, dwm.exe, etc.) and which are processes started by a user?

dwm.exe: Lost Windows 7 transparency DWM not working properly

After installing new theme from Microsoft (http://windows.microsoft.com/hr-HR/windows/downloads/snowflakes-and-frost-theme) my Windows 7 lost all its transparency (Aero) effects and placed Windows Basic as the actual theme.
I've been googling for my problem for an hour now and I have not found any solutions.
All my attempts to fix this issue have failed.

I've tried running the standard wizard for for fixing transparency problems and I got a response:

dwm.exe: Completely locking down Windows 7 using Python 3.2?

This might be a more difficult question since I don't even know how to do it outside of Python...

I want to write a terminal program that completely locks up my PC until a password is entered. In the locked state no one should be able to do anything outside the terminal. In it, the user may rampage and write silly commands, but he should not be able to switch windows, click outside of it, open the task manager, open the menu with Ctrl + Alt Gr + Del and so on.

dwm.exe: BitmapCache causes WPF application to lock up

Here's the scenario:

1: Our WPF application starts

2: The WPF application loads various user controls, including some that use the new BitmapCache feature in WPF 4

3: Hit ctrl-alt-delete or win+l or load another application which requires UAC

4: Cancel that stuff

The WPF application is now unresponsive, however it's WPF itself which is the problem. All the application logic on all the background threads is fine, and you can interact with it by pressing alt+f4,

dwm.exe: Problem with explorer.exe and dwm.exe in Windows 7 [closed]

I'm using Window 7 Ultimate. I get a problem with two processes, namely explorer.exe and sometimes dwm.exe.

The two processes tend to use cpu between 20-30%.

And it only occurs when i play some game on my PC. My PC works perfect until I play some game.

And another important observation:
They consume no cpu as such but only consumes when I try to refresh my desktop. I mean when I right-click on desktop. It takes seconds for refresh.

I have no virus problems.

dwm.exe: Dwm.exe memory leak when resizing simple WinForm application

I created very simple Winform application in VS2010 (just a standard template File->New->Project->C# Windows Forms Application).

After several form resizes the system memory consumption can increase by 1Gb or more! And this memory is not returned to the system after application closing. Selecting Classic theme or killing dwm.exe helps to get memory back.

Here is the simple video I recorded to show the problem: http://youtu.be/ZJMCayflrHI

What can I do to get rid of this lea

dwm.exe: Delphi 7 - Screenshot without capturing form - Windows 8 - DWM.exe

Friends,

Need to screenshot of the all desktop WITHOUT MY FORM and load in TImage.
Success in Windows XP, 7 - with just ALPHABLEND = TRUE + SCREENSHOT PROCEDURE.

But same code does not work in Windows 8 - capture all screen INCLUDING THE FORM.

I know the problem is related to AERO - DWM.EXE - success using pssuspend.exe (sysinternals) - suspending winlogon.exe and killing dwm.exe

Someone could tell me how to capture all desktop without my form also in Windows 8?

I am in the process of migrating an existing legacy project. For now we want to use C++/CLI as a bridge between business logic (native C++) and interface (WPF). I followed this MSDN article on how to host WPF content in a Win32 window as a starting point. However, I cannot wrap my head around this problem: Whenever I resize the host window...

defrag.exe: what the best and simplest way to find out whether a volume need defrag?

I am writing a application that monitor the system's health, user should know when they need to defrag the volumes.

What I am thinking is calling the 'defrag.exe /A' then analyze the output result to see whether it contains 'You do not need to defragment this volume.'

But it's slow and very bad, I fount that the 'Analyze' is really quick on the MyDefrag.exe.

Anyone could tell me what's the best and simplest way?

net.exe: Set the timeout with Windows net.exe

I have a batch file that shuts down several services and another one that starts those services back up. We recently upgraded the software for one of those services and it's taking longer for that service to start up. If I start it through the Computer Management Console it starts fine. When I do net start 'My Service' is there a way to set the timeout or something I can do to make it wait longer in my batch file? This is a Win2K8 server.
