ftp.exe: Is it possible to prevent overwriting files with ftp.exe?

I am referring to the Windows-native ftp.exe application. Out-of-the-box, it seems to overwrite files under any and all circumstances.

Is it possible to prevent overwriting files with ftp.exe? If this cannot be done with specific ftp.exe arguments, can it be done using a batch process to call ftp.exe?

ftp.exe: Why I cannot get the output of ftp.exe by code?

I execute the ftp.exe cmd through a C# System.Diagnostics.Process type. And I use the following code to get the 'ftp.exe' output after I programmatically enter a 'help' command. But I can only get the first line of the result. And I never get to the 'end' output part. The whole program seems blocked.

Process p = new Process();
p.StartInfo.FileName = @'C:WindowsSystem32ftp.exe';
p.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true;
p.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true;

ftp.exe: Using FTP.exe and mget to download files and directories from a ftp directory

I am trying to set up an automatic download of the files from a FTP directory on a scheduled basis. The solution I have come up with is to create a batch file that will be ran by windows task scheduler. the batch file is as follows (so far)

prompt
open ftp://xx.xx.xx.xx
myuser
mypassword
lcd C:localdir
cd /remotedir/
mget *
quit

The problem is that this does not get everything in the specified directory. Only the loose files in the directory such as a .zip

msiexec.exe: How to use msiexec.exe to remove a Windows installer

We have a Windows installer package, sample.msi. To install the package we are using

msiexec /i sample.exec /qr

To uninstall the same package, the below code is used.

msiexec /x sample.exec /qr

When we use /x it deletes all the files in the associated directory which is created. We want to retain all the contents in the directory. How is that possible?

This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help
diagnose the problem, but since we have already cra

sidebar.exe: Executing commands from C# problem

I've made a little C# tool for monitoring sidebar.exe (as some know there's a strange memory leak in it, so this monitor restarts the sidebar.exe process when it reaches a limit...).

Before this I had a .bat file doing it and I was running it manually, and it worked fine. Now, I'm executing the cmd commands from C#, but the behavior is different: only 4 of the 7 gadgets appear again after 'start sidebar.exe'. It always happens with the program, and never when run manually.

ntvdm.exe: How can I kill a 16bit process held by nvtdm.exe?

I have a c# application that monitors wmi process start / terminate events. I need to also detect an old legacy 16 bit application starting. I am able to determine if my legacy app starts using code I found in this link - 16-Bit Apps running under NTVDM

But here's my question... Say I want to kill a 16bit process that was started by ntvdm.exe, how would I do that? I don't think I want to kill ntvdm.exe itself incase it is managing other 16bit process or whatever not related to my code

kernel32.dll: ASLR and Windows System DLLs for non-aware executables?

From a Microsoft article:

Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR)

ASLR moves executable images into random locations when a system
boots, making it harder for exploit
code to operate predictably. For a
component to support ASLR, all
components that it loads must also
support ASLR. For example, if A.exe
consumes B.dll and C.dll, all three
must support ASLR. By default, Windows
Vista and later will randomize system

reminder.exe: Powershell Script Timeout After 130 Seconds

I have a powershell script that runs a console .exe application. The console application runs a web service. The webservice takes approx 10 mins to complete a task.

In a production environment the powershell script finishes after approx 130 seconds and the web service task is terminated. This is the core problem! Everything works just fine in a local environment.

Powershell version 2 is running both locally and in production.

excel.exe: Convert xls to csv or kill EXCEL.exe process

I have an application which automates a reporting system originally based off DTS packages. The web based app is currently writing the output xls file to another server on the network. I am finding that an instance of excel is left running on the server being written to even after the website is closed. I would like to either be able to change my exiting routine to output a csv file rather than a xls file, or kill the EXCEL.exe process across networked machines. Help please!

vb6.exe: Comparing VB6.exes

We're going through a massive migration project at the minute and trying to validate the code that is deployed to the live estate matches the code we have in source control.

Obviously the .net code is easy to compare because we can disassemble. I don't believe this is possible in vb6 exes because of the manner of compilation.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could validate the source code and the compiled executable matches the file I have in Live.

Thanks

mdm.exe: Visual Studio JIT Debugger loads extremely slow, 30 seconds

When I run a .Net program that executes

System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Launch()

that should bring up the JIT debugger. Here is what happens on my machine:

An alert titled 'Machine Debug Manager' comes up, explaining its command line options. Ok, so this is mdm.exe, but could'nt it be silent?

The real issue comes now: Quite exactly 30 seconds later the Visual Studio JIT Debugger selection dialog comes up.

Since procmon does not show registry or file system act
