werfault.exe

Win32: TerminateProcess defeated by Windows Error Report dialog

I'm working on a program ('A') which uses ShellExecuteEx to call another program ('B') that occasionally crashes. Program A can detect crash of B, and can kill B using TerminateProcess.

However, when B crashes (and before A has terminated it), up pops Windows' 'Program B has stopped working' dialog (WerFault.exe). So although A can kill B, that leaves behind an instance of WerFault.exe each time B fails.

I thought I might have some joy by using the WER api to invoke WerAddExcludedApplication and put B on the excluded list. However, all that seems to do is to change the 'has stopped working' dialog so that it offers only 'Close' and 'Debug', and omits 'Check online for a solution'.

Any idea how I can get B to just crash without invoking WerFault.exe? (Windows 7).

I did see this thread: How to crash a process on Windows-7 without getting the WER dialog? . However there the intent was to ensure that WER was always invoked, not how to disable or dismiss it.

Suggestions?

werfault.exe: C# trigger, Surround SCM & werfault.exe

We are in the process of setting up surround scm as our source control program. We created a trigger which will run when changing the state of a file/repository. When we run it on many files the server gets several werfault.exe processes in the process list. I realize its windows error reporting, however, there is no popup. I'm trying to determine the cause of the error... is there a specific log I can check, or a debugging technique I can use? I don't believe it will be possible to debug direct

werfault.exe: How do I disable werfault.exe for my app?

I have to run this program millions of times. It's not the most stable beast, and it crashes around 5% of the time. When this happens, I don't want a popup, or WerFault to take 30 sec to take a dump, or anything - I just want it to silently and immediately disappear, and I'll figure out it crashed from the process exit code.

I already have Windows Error Reporting Service disabled, and my AEDebug key deleted. However, werfault is still trying to take a dump on crash. Help?

werfault.exe: How to troubleshoot Java crashes on Windows 8 system with Werfault.exe

I'm trying to troubleshoot my application that seems to crash in production with no Java level logging.

I can tell when my application is about to crash because the UI becomes unresponsive, and in the background java.exe spawns werfault.exe.

Then I get the 'Java.exe has stopped working ... ' message.

I have a dump file, but I'm not sure how to analyze it. Java console messages indicates the application is happy and healthy up until boom, nothing, and the app hard-crashes.

werfault.exe: .net executable build on xp, does not start on windows 7 - werfault

i've made a .NET application on an Windows XP workstation and it works fine.
But if i try to run it on Windows 7 the application does not start at all - no windows, no error messages, nothing visibile. I've tryed in every combination of compatibility mode in 7 but no one works.
The only thing i can see in task manager is that when i start the application on windows 7 at the same time the werfault.exe process is started, then after a few seconds both disappears.

Is there a werfault.e

werfault.exe: Detecting process crash - C++ code

Is there any way to detect process crash in windows 7 ? just to clarify upon every process crash windows creates the WERfault.exe ( windows error reporting) . i have driver that monitor the system by using the existing kernel callback mechanism of the kernel that notifies my
driver when a certain process event happens (using PsSetCreateProcessNotifyRoutine). the problem is i see that WERfault.exe created by svchost.exe but i can not find a way resolving which process has crashed.

werfault.exe: kill processes one by one using .bat

I want to kill process 'example.exe' one by one or two at a time to eventually get 0 'example.exe' processes
and loop check if there's any 'example.exe' processes every minute , if there is - terminate them/it.
Right now I'm using this

:TASKKILL
TASKKILL /F /IM WerFault.exe
ping 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 120000
goto :TASKKILL

but this just kills them all at the same time which is no good to me .

werfault.exe: Getting crash information from event log, without need to press “close program” when program…

I have a very weird problem, when my application e.g. internet explorer crashes. WerFault.exe pops up to inform about the crash at the same point of time a 'crash' log is recorded in Event Viewer > Application in windows. However unless i press 'close program' more information about the particular crash is not generated in the application event log. How do i automatically make WerFault create the necessary crash dump information without needing to physically click 'Close Program'. I am doing pyt

sidebar.exe: Windows 7 Gadgets - Windows 7 Logo Program Certification

One of the requirements for the 'Windows 7 Logo Program' is that the application must be a standalone application. Does a Windows 7 gadget qualify as a standalone application?

To my knowledge, a gadget runs under the Sidebar.exe process (also in Windows 7). Though the Sidebar is not visible in Windows 7 it runs in the background when a gadget is run.

sidebar.exe: Reliably detecting OS architecture in a Windows Desktop Gadget

An older version of this COM object was written in VB6 and didn't work correctly on x64 versions of Windows unless the user manually ran the x86 sidebar.exe, so some of our users would have switched to using the x86 sidebar.exe for the COM object to work.

In short, I need to correctly detect the architecture of the operating system currentl

inetinfo.exe: Not stopping at server side breakpoints whilst Debugging classic asp with Visual Studio 2005

The website is set up locally on my IIS 5.1 on xp.
Application protection is set to low within IIS so the asp is run inside the inetinfo.exe process.

I start debugging , attach to the inetinfo.exe process and refresh the page in the browser so the page reloads and reruns the server side code. Non of the breakpoints get hit. There's no warnings around the breakpoints to alert me to an issue.

Is there a reliable way to detect whether or not WinHelp is installed on Windows Vista or newer versions of Windows? If possible, I'd like a solution that's not specific to any particular version of Windows.

I've posted this question to other message boards and got back answers regarding the size of Winhlp32.exe before and after installing WinHelp and Registry entries that Microsoft has documented, but none of them were correct.

notepad.exe: Find the path of notepad.exe and mspaint.exe

What is the best way to find out where is notepad.exe and mspaint.exe that will work across various versions of Windows?

Should I get the Windows directory via SHGetFolderPath(NULL, CSIDL_WINDOWS, NULL, SHGFP_TYPE_CURRENT, dir), and then traverse through all the subdirectories to look for the two files?

(Assume that I am not interested in anything outside the Windows folder.)

iexplore.exe: invoke iexplore.exe in already launched instance using ShellExecuteEx

I used ShellExecuteEx to call iexplore.exe, Whenever I start the application a new instance of internet explorer is created irrespective of, internet explorer already opened or not.

I want to change this, if already an instance of the Internet explorer is there, I need to open a new tab in that instance with the address I am passing to the ShExecInfo.lpParameters, thus without creating a new window. Is there a way to do this? Please advice..

java.exe: restart java.exe from an applet

I have an applet packaged with a third part dll (from JTwain). My applet scans documents from the TWAIN compatible default printer. The applet fails on a paper jam and won't recover. The user navigates away from the page and the applet is destroyed. When returning to the page it fails again. Closing the browser (which kills java.exe process on the pc), and then returning to the page clears the problem and everything works.

I want to restart everything without requiring users to close down
